A validated, matrix-effect-free mass-spectrometry method found little or no lovastatin in retail oyster mushroom samples.
What the researchers found
Using a matrix-effect-free molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction UHPLC-MS/MS method, lovastatin was found in low or null amounts in three oyster mushroom samples purchased from Czech food stores.
How the study worked
Analytical method development and validation. Molecularly imprinted polymer solid-phase extraction (MISPE) coupled to UHPLC-MS/MS, validated for precision, accuracy, linearity, range, LOD, LOQ and matrix effects. Applied to three mushroom and fifteen tea samples bought in Czech food stores and tearooms.
What this study cannot tell us
Small sample count (three mushroom samples), single country of purchase, and the paper reports 'low or null' without publishing a per-sample concentration table.
